Marshmallow/Pom Pom Shooter

You may have seen this idea floating around on Pinterest. Well, so did we, and we decided to give it a try. We had all the supplies, so this gave the kids and I an hour of free entertainment!

We made just a few changes to the tutorial we found here...

We first tried paper cups, but those didn't hold up (we didn't have plastic). So I "made" the kids eat a cup of applesauce so we could use the containers from those.

I roughly cut off the bottoms of the applesauce containers.

Then tied a knot in one end of a balloon and cut off the top of the other end.

Then stretched the open end of the balloon over the top of the applesauce container.

Then we were ready to go! It was a chilly morning so we first tried the marshmallows inside. But once I saw how far they went and saw the marshmallows slipping behind and under the couches and chairs, I decided it might be best to take them outside. So we bundled up and played with the shooters as long as the kids would last.

I'm pretty sure the reason Joe and Dan were so happy was because I gave them each a small bowl of marshmallows... Joe had no desire to even try the shooter.

John, on the other hand, was a pro! We tried shooting the marshmallows as far as we could, and then as high as we could. Then ended up just shooting them at each other. I was thinking these would be fun to make at a 5 or 6 year olds birthday party.

Dan was frustrated at first, he couldn't get the marshmallows to shoot like he wanted them to. But by the end he started to catch on.
